Cunard Cruise 2012
Trip Day 16
Thursday, April 5th
Delhi, India to Dubai, U.A.E.
(the ship arrives in Dubai)

Today the ship arrives in Dubai. To get to Dubai the ship has to pass through the Strait of Hormuz best known because it is the only access to the Persian Gulf and its oil. There have been some tensions recently with Iran (who is on the north shore of the strait) and other western countries who are not seeing eye to eye on a number of things (mostly of a nuclear nature) these days. The south side of the strait has Oman and a bit of the United Arab Emerates (mainly Dubai) along that shore.

If all has gone well then I am on the final day of the Taj Mahal shore excursion starting in Delhi, India and flying from Delhi to Dubai with a tour of Dubai.

Since I start in India the time is still 10.5 hours ahead of home . By the end of the day I will be on Dubai time.

The time in Dubai is 9 hours ahead of home and is what is known as Gulf Standard Time or GST.

Here is the description of the fourth and final day of the Taj Mahal shore excursion from Cunard's information:

DAY 4 – DUBAI

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the airport for your flight to Dubai. On arrival you will be met by your new guide and take a panoramic tour of Dubai’s highlights. See the pristine Jumeirah Beach area where you’ll find the Jumeirah Mosque, you’ll also have a photograph stop to capture the world famous Burj al Arab Hotel. Your tour continues to the downtown district to see Dubai’s crowning glory, the Burj Khalifa which measures 828 metres and is the world’s tallest building. Finally, you’ll return to Queen Elizabeth at Port Rashid.

As always there are some additional notes but since they are the same as the ones for the first day of the excursion I will repeat only the one that relates to Dubai here.

Note: Dubai: guests are advised that the United Arab Emirates have more stringent laws and expectations regarding public expressions of affection, drinking and revealing clothing. Short skirts and brief shorts should be avoided. Some medicines are prohibited in the U.A.E, please check your Pre Voyage Documentation.

So, this is the plan for this day.
